Christmas Memories: My little elf

DSCN5821

Living in a small house has its advantages, but preparing for Christmas is not one of them.  With three busy boys and one busy husband, I had to get creative in setting aside time to wrap presents.  I would sneak away, but this little rascal kept finding me Smile  I tried to distract him by giving him his own wrapping (old baby shower paper) paper to wrap with it but he soon wised up to the fact that Momma was not sharing the tape!

Later on, as I was labeling the gifts with their sticky gift tags Joseph thrilled because he thought I was going to be sharing the stickers.  After failing to distract him further, I ended up writing on one and giving it to him to put on his shirt.  He did this but at some point he must have taken off his shirt (I don’t even remember this) and decided it was better on his flesh.  Silly boy!

The message on his gift tag read “To Momma & Daddy – Love God!’

Side note:  I am trying to blog these days when he settles down for naps and I am playing catch up on my posting from December and early January.

Box Time!

DSCN5798

I have to confess, my blog has turned into my virtual scrapbook to capture the moments I want to always remember with my Joseph.  I know I lost a lot of readers and that is ok, but this is my journey right now and it is what keeps me sane (to what level of sanity, completely unsure).  I find that when I am having a really tough time, like today and last night, I find myself focusing on the positive . . .on the moments that bring me great joy.

Like the days that followed his birthday party.  On the day of his party we received a package in this box for some new diapers I am trying with him and we made the box a boat, a train, a garden, and since his big infatuation these days is pizza (which he likes only a little) we drew lots of little pizzas on there.  Now that I am thinking about it, I was trying to teach him shapes and when I drew the circle he immediately called it a pizza!  We rarely eat pizza, but it is a treat for us and he must have loved those times.  Now when he sees anything round, he thinks about cookies Winking smile  Silly boy!  He does call lots of things cookies, especially his favorite peanut butter crackers.

He loves to borrow my cooking utensils and so we pretended we were cooking a big bowl of soup!  I love these moments!

It is not always sunshine and roses

Tonight Joseph had a huge meltdown! It happened right at bedtime and it took both of us to try to problem solve our ways to helping him. I started finally singing "come Holy Spirit" which just made he spiral down even faster, poor kid! I kept the spirit of prayer as I just held his screaming body! I then realized he was angry at the sheet! He has sensitivity to some things that never occur to me as a bother, once Jessy and I took the sheet off and just left him covered with the quilts, he started to recover slowly. I tried a few of his favorite songs to which he told me "no mama" then we finally had a winner when I tried "Elmo's world". Sweet babe, sang that song a dozen times or so until he drifted off to sleep. I pray he has a restful night! Not much sleep for us the past two night, he has just been restless and needing extra reassurance. I think his molars could be bothering him, he begged for Popsicles tonight and he never asks for those. He has a small dose of Advil in his little body so I hope that eases some pain.
He is such a fun boy, it hurts my heart to see him so upset! It is the little things and while all of the meltdown occurred, Jessy stayed by the bed to pray! Now that is a godly Daddy. I want to know that the most important place I bring my child is to the feet of Jesus, the throne of grace! I am so glad his daddy does this for him too!
We may not have much in the way of worldly possessions, a big house, a fancy car, or a loaded bank account but we do have Jesus! I could not be more proud and thankful that he already knows his Jesus and his Momma Mary!
The other night he climbed on my lap as I read our favorite blog from Mexico and he immediately recognized Our Lady of Guadalupe (we have the same image of Mary in our living room) and he said "oh, my Mary." Nothing in this world makes me happier than to know my baby knows the ones who love him even more than I can, will, or do!
